WORLD OCEANS DAY 2018:

Preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean

#OneSmallChange

Galway Atlantaquaria is celebrating World Oceans Day with a family fun day on Sunday 10th of June, 2018. There will be a PRE LAUNCH event on the 9th of June from 11am until 3pm, where we will be presenting an exhibit by BIM (Bord Iascaigh Mhara) on the Fishing for litter programme.

Our World Oceans Day event is really special this year. Galway Atlantaquaria & Galway County Council European Green Leaf is launching the #OneSmallChange exhibition, which hopes to encourage and engage the public to make #OneSmallChange to help the ocean.

Our celebration starts at 12pm until 5pm, exhibits include the launch of the #OneSmallChange project with Pauline O’Reilly of the Green Party and other VIP guests. The #OneSmallChange exhibit includes some amazing upcycled Plastic Artwork from the Secret Life of Plastic Artist Oonagh Herbert, you can see her work here; http://secretlifeofplastic.com/

On Sunday the 10th of June we will have;

Galway Field Studies Centre presenting their brand new MICROPLASTICS workshop where young people will be invited to play games to identify positive solutions to avoid #MarineLitter.

Lots of MAD SCIENCE experiments with Gary Ridge & these workshops include MAD slime, ROCKETS and other fun science experiments. Galway Critters will also be here with some amazing Animals.

There will be some amazing presentations from the #OneSmallChange participants including a LEAVE NO TRACE table, showing how the public can enjoy the outdoors and help keep our environments clean. Down2Earth materials table showing off the range of #Compostable products that can prevent #PlasticPollution. We will have Galway County Council and Clean Coasts showing how we can keep Galway #Plasticfree and show how you can participate with a #2minutebeachclean or set up your own Clean Coasts group. VOICE Ireland will also show how to recycle with their information table. The unique BINSTRAP invention will also be displayed and seeing as ‘blow off’ from unsecured bins are a public health hazard, it will be great to see how this works.

We have lots of fun activities for kids including ART PRINTING with Susie Quinn, Face painting with Loop Lou, JUMPING CLAY fun and a very special attendance with ‘The Plastic Whale’!

We are delighted to welcome the amazing NUIG/GMIT SubAqua club who will be diving in our Ocean tank, so there is lots to see at the Aquarium for World Oceans Day!

1+A Day
World wide
1+A Day

Plastic is a major issue facing our oceans and we can all do something about it - watch this video to find out a way you can help keep plastic out of our oceans.

A lot of the plastic we walk past in our streets each day will end up in the ocean. If every one of us picked up at least one piece of plastic each day, this would make a significant difference in the amount of plastic making it's way daily into the ocean. If we all do a little bit, then together we can make a huge difference

9th Annual Greenermind Summit

$75 – $290

Tickets for the Greenermind Summit are sold out! However, we may be able to make space for a few more people, so please click on "Tickets" and join the wait list.

A community of change-makers.

A weekend of play | connection | discovery.

Join us for the 9th Greenermind Summit!

The Greenermind Summit is an infamous yearly gathering in the Mendocino Woodlands, organized by a community of change-makers in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's one part adult summer camp, one part unconference, and one part restorative retreat.

Our 2018 event is happening June 14-17 in the Mendocino Woodlands.

Is there a talent show? Yup. Do we make music around the campfire? Yup. Will you learn about cutting-edge ways people are solving wicked problems like sanitation in the developing world, gender bias at work, oceanic plastic pollution, affordable housing policy, and more? Duh — it wouldn’t be Greenermind without some serious nerding out.

At Greenermind you'll meet mission-driven people from diverse backgrounds. We are entrepreneurs, educators, designers, scientists, nonprofit leaders, corporate managers, artists, policy experts, front-line activists, and more.

Your experience is exactly what you make it. You can dive into facilitated activities or relish unstructured time. The entire weekend is sourced from our stellar community; you’re invited to present a workshop, lead a hike, create art, or bring anything you’d like to share.

If you have passion to share, if you want to grow and explore, if your soul needs a pickup from this crazy world—join us. We hope to see you this year.

How did this get started?

The Greenermind Community emerged from a group of mission-driven professionals who got sick of boring work conferences with name badges and bad vibes. Everything we do at Greenermind Summit is the opposite of what you'd find at a typical conference. We wear costumes. We move our bodies. We sing, we play games, we help each other process feelings, we stay up until 4am dancing, spinning fire, and talking about mindfulness or carbon sequestration. It's a do-it-yourself TEDx in the woods, with art and music and a rockin' party.

Important Details:

Event ScheduleThe Summit officially begins on Friday. We encourage you to arrive on Thursday if your schedule permits.

Cost: We’re 100% volunteer-run (we do this because we love it), and tickets are priced at cost.

What's Included: Your ticket includes food and lodging from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon as well as participation in all event activities. All breakfasts are BYO.

Transportation: We set up a carpool spreadsheet; the drive is a great way to meet new friends.

Kids: We want parents to be able to come to the Summit, so we offer paid childcare during the day, and parents work together to provide childcare in the evenings. The deadline for purchasing kids' tickets is May 22, so we can plan childcare and kids' activities.

More Details: Everything you want to know can be found at greenermindsummit.com

Cancellation Policy: All tickets are transferrable (aka you can sell them to someone else). There are no refunds for Flash Sale tickets. There are refunds for Early Bird, Regular, and Last Chance tickets, and our policy is as follows: If you find that you are unable to attend the Greenermind Summit, you can receive a full refund (minus a $30 processing fee) through May 1st. From May 1st through 19th, a 75% refund is available. From May 20th through June 2th, a 50% refund is available. Unfortunately, after June 2nd, we cannot offer refunds. To request a refund or to change the name on a ticket, email info@greenermindsummit.com

A Bangkok Riverside Cleanup

Join SEVENSEAS Media Saturday June 9, 2018: A Bangkok Riverside Cleanup. The exact location is to-be-determined however we are considering multiple. As you know the hundreds of canals in the “Venice of the East” all eventually flow into the Gulf of Thailand, littering beaches, polluting water, killing wildlife, and poisoning the fish we eat. Join us to spend one day (and hopefully inspire others) to do our part in cleaning up the river-side mess that will soon wash into the sea. Consider a 200-500 Baht cash donation to support our riverside cleanup. If you would like to make a larger donation to support our work please go here and type World Oceans Day in the subject box. Please RSVP your attendance on the Riverside Cleanup Facebook invite. A Plastic Ocean, Film Screening & Discussion

A PLASTIC OCEAN begins when journalist Craig Leeson, searching for the elusive blue whale, discovers plastic waste in what should be pristine ocean. In this adventure documentary, Craig teams up with free diver Tanya Streeter and an international team of scientists and researchers, and they travel to twenty locations around the world over the next four years to explore the fragile state of our oceans, uncover alarming truths about plastic pollution, and reveal working solutions that can be put into immediate effect.

David Attenborough described this a documentary as “one of the most important films of our time”.

Following the screening, we will have a discussion about what is being done locally and nationally and how people can join in and support efforts to address the issue.

We are being joined by Sorcha Cantwell who set up the 'Scottish Coastal Cleanup Project'last year and has collected over a ton of rubbish from our beaches. We also have 'Ullapool Sea Saver' - a group of campaigning primary pupils who will be bringing along some ideas too.

Free entry - donations to Scottish Coastal Cleanup Project accepted.

Screening has been joint funded by Living Seas and the MacPhail Centre/High Life Highland.
